spiderette, AKA angela mae jalbert, is learning to call herself an artist.
born and raised in south philly, she found joy in art early in her childhood. she was always drawing something, using books on animals and mythology as references. as she grew, she learned about anime, particularly sailor moon, and her inspiration took off. she was happiest drawing her favorite characters and coming up with her own, and making up new worlds for them to live in.
she attended the philadelphia high school for creative and performing arts, but was more interested in socializing and being a cranky teenager than she was in pursuing art. she lost her passion, and stopped considering herself an artist.
in 2019, she got an ipad for her birthday. “i won’t use this,” she thought, but downloaded a few art programs anyway. every now and then, she’d open one up, doodle a line, grumble, and give up. then one day, she decided to actually try. and it all came back. the love she had for art reignited, and it hasn’t faded since.
she still loves drawing her favorite characters. she loves her hometown of philadelphia, too. she REALLY loves her two chubby cats, hoagie and gabagool, but she still hasn’t figured out how to draw a cat in a way she’s happy with. she hates olives.
